Food Bank

Today I spent the afternoon volunteering for the Canterbury Food Bank. Food banks are a brilliant way for people to get emergency food parcels.
Myself and another volunteer were in ASDA handing out leaflets which had a number of items on, which people could buy and place in one of our trolleys!
Most towns and cities will have a food bank which you can donate food too or volunteer at the collection events which happen in supermarkets and schools!
There is a lot of dedication from volunteer  and without them food banks would cease to exist leaving many families without food during difficult times.
We collected so much food today which was fantastic. People were so generous with their donations, many with food or money donations!
By the time I finished at 6pm the van was full - hopefully some families will benefit greatly from the food donated today!
Volunteering is also a great way of giving something back to the community, as a resident, or if you have ever used a food bank! I personally feel it is very rewarding knowing that a few hours of my day will make a difference to some people in need!

Have you ever helped out at a food bank of done any voluntary work?
